It Is Really Easy!
What does it mean to be a good friend? It can be difficult to break down the qualities that make someone a good friend. But if we look at friendship through the lens of social psychology, there are some clear indicators that one is not fulfilling their role as a “good” friend. To be a good friend, one must have empathy. When you empathize with others, it means that you can see things from their perspective. You understand where they may be coming from and what is bothering them- even if it’s something small or silly. It also helps people to feel less alone because someone else understands how they are feeling at the moment without having to explain everything in detail. Empathy often leads to understanding which then progresses into helpful advice rather than criticism!
A person who has empathy will not only provide quality comfort for those around him/her but he/she will also give out constructive feedback when needed. After all, nobody wants constant pity; we want help getting better! There are times when your friends might act out or show anger and it is important to not react in the same manner.
This article will teach you how to be a good friend by understanding someone else’s perspective, showing empathy for their situation, and providing constructive feedback when needed!
*Important Tip: one way of being empathetic is asking questions about what they are feeling or thinking. What do you think? How did that make you feel? When we ask these types of questions, our friends may start opening up on things which have been bothering them but haven’t said anything about yet.*
